Quote of the Day

Even compared to the manifest swindles and perversions of the past 20 years or thereabouts, the United States has never seen anything like Fox News. The closest comparison to what Fox does daily would be the party-line propaganda sheets of the far left and extreme right that made Orwell worry “that the very concept of objective truth is fading out of the world.” —Gene Lyons

Pat Robertson and Marijuana Laws

I don’t often agree with Pat Robertson, but he is certainly right on marijuana:

“I’m … I’m not exactly for the use of drugs, don’t get me wrong, but I just believe that criminalizing marijuana, criminalizing the possession of a few ounces of pot, that kinda thing it’s just, it’s costing us a fortune and it’s ruining young people. Young people go into prisons, they go in as youths and come out as hardened criminals. That’s not a good thing.”

Unfortunately he walked back his words after this as his initial words were true. I hope that Democratic politicians do not want to be to the right of Robertson on this issue and back decriminalization of marijuana.

Pryor and Four Other Buckeyes Suspended for Four Games

Michigan State is really getting some breaks in the Big Ten schedule. This year they didn’t have to play Ohio State. I’m sure many following the Big Ten would like to see a game between these two, but next year’s game won’t give any clues as to how a game this year might have turned out. When they play Ohio State next season Pryor and other four players will be out on suspension. Ohio State also plays Akron, Toledo, Miami (Fla), and Colorado without Pryor. Their first game with Pryor back will be against Nebraska. The suspension does not include the Sugar Bowl.

Candidates For RNC Chairman Show Support For Restricting Individual Freedoms

Republicans might talk about wanting to concentrate on the economy as opposed to social issues but they support the same old policies. Some of the candidates for Republican National Committee chairmanship are speaking to the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List to convince them that they share their beliefs. Politico reports on how the prospective GOP leaders are not only pledging to oppose abortion rights but to also protect their concept of “traditional marriage.”

In other words, the Republican Party continues to show that it is not a party of small government. It is a party which supports increased government power to intrude upon the lives of individuals and impose their views upon others.
