The Republican War on Obama (and America)

Andrew Sullivan:

I have to say even I am a little taken aback by the force of the Republican assault. Even in a downturn as swift and alarming as this one, even after an election that clearly favored one approach over another, even after the most conciliatory efforts by an incoming president in memory, these people have gone to war against the president. The president should stay cool. The rest of us should realize what motivates the GOP: the opportunism of selective ideology.

Sullivan again:

This much is now clear. Their clear and open intent is to do all they can, however they can, to sabotage the new administration (and the economy to boot). They want failure. Even now. Even after the last eight years. Even in a recession as steeply dangerous as this one. There are legitimate debates to be had; and then there is the cynicism and surrealism of total political war. We now should have even less doubt about what kind of people they are. And the mountain of partisan vitriol Obama will have to climb every day of the next four or eight years.

So what else is new? This is the politics of Nixon and Agnew. It is the politics of Newt Gingrich and the Republican Congress. The Republicans have become an authoritarian movement which lacks both principles and any concept of actually governing. All they are concerned about is the accumulation of power and trying to destroy anyone who gets in their way.

The republicans need to go to war with bush for turning them into some anti americans when you destroy documents that are presidential memos and emails ignore supeonas and play games with the constitution you are not part of american society any more you are a domestic terrorist with no respect for this country when you do anything to uphold ideals that you dont even stand for yourself you are delusional and a hypocrite and should actually be hanging your head in shame rather than talking about a president that is trying to make things right they should be worrying about what karl rove might say and who he might emplicate because they could find themselves in federal prisons for violating the law which was there usual for the last 8 years

…The politics of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove, of Bush one and Bush two. We realized then a single word describes the Republican mindset: rabies.

I might remind everyone that at the present time the Republicans are incapable of stopping anything the Dems want to pass. They simply DO NOT have the number of votes needed to block a bill. It would take a lot of Democrats joining them to stop something. The only thing they can do is filibuster, but again, the Democrats picked up 60 votes which ended the debate and  passed the bill. So please stop worrying. The Republicans can really only sit and watch for now and voice their ineffective opposition.

I believe Bush betrayed my fiscal conservative values.  So you can guess what I believe about the Stimulus package.  I can’t sit back and watch this happen to my country.  Obama spoke of fiscal conservatism.  Obama spoke of reining in national debt.  Obama spoke of many fiscal conservative values during the election.  Now he is spending worse than a drunken sailor.  I’m not attacking Obama’s character.  I’m attacking his spend thrift ways.  I heard too many liberals complain about our national debt.  Now they sit idly by and just grin and nod.  I’m fighting for my principles.  We can’t spend ourselves out of debt.

It isn’t simply a matter of sitting idly by. It is the belief that Obama inherited an unusual situation and that this wasn’t going to simply be a self-correcting down turn.
