Wesley Clark Considering 2008 Run

The 2008 horse race is really getting under way. So far we’ve seen moves by Vilsack and McCain. Today the Arkansas Times reports that “Gen. Wesley Clark is turning his attention toward deciding to run for president.” They say he’ll have a decision within the next two months:

Clark’s spokesman, Erick Mullen, said, “That’s true, but we don’t have a timeline for when a decision will be made just yet.”

Mullen added, “All options are on the table. Gen. Clark was the [Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s] number-one requested surrogate, especially in red states and swing states during this cycle. As we travel around, in places that other Democrats don’t go, there is a clamor and enthusiasm to see Gen. Clark serve in public again. Obviously, with the war and national security at the top of the agenda, Clark is well-suited to lead the country in a better direction than it’s going now.”

I liked Wes in 2004 and thought he added a lot to the ticket.
He cetainly has the military defense angle covered.
But will that be enough in 2008?

Let’s face it…Repubs will drag out the old Gay/Lesbian. abortion, their God for all their way mantras.
As was in another post, security is more then secure from those who want to kill us. It is the massive debt, lack of health care, pension reform, Social Security, Medicaid, environmental, economy and on and on.
We do better by attending to the security from terrorists but expand the term security. I thought Kerry did this very well.

McCain wants to send 100k more troops we don’t have to Iraq. We need to bang him hard on his desire to expand and not end the Iraq war. We need to keep Dumbya’s veto stamp busy as he continues to ignore real security issues.

Clarke will need to show that he has better understanding of domestic issues than he had in 2004, but he has had plenty of time to study. He entered the race before he was ready in 2004 and his weaknesses showed.

One thing Clarke was good at was in speaking eloquently about the value of liberal democracy. While this isn’t enough to qualify to be President, it is important when an era when the foundations of our liberties are under attack by the Republicans.

I found this post on Koss.
It is about fair trade and discusses many issues I agree with.

Any candidate needs to discuss trade issues at some level.

Put Wes Clark up against Hillary (strange visual) anytime, and he will win with more votes. When people hear the differences between them, and the fact that Hillary is not electable as a Democratic nominee for President, they will go with the person who is less threatening.

    Is it 2008 already?
Lets see whe have Vilsack, Clark announcing
I hope Kerry and Obama decide to run.
    I even hope Hillary runs.
Add the usual suspects like Dennis Kucinich and Ralph Nader.

The first goal is to show how not-ready-for-prime-time Hillary is. The world is not ready for Bubba’s third term.
Then let the others battle it out.
I think the first four would have great debates. The latter two are for entertainment value only.

I hope Kerry wins but it is a ways off.
First Dems have to show that they can effectively govern with what they have. If they do that then the public just might consider Dems for the POTUS.

    Interesting diary on dKos, thanks.

I’m going to wait on the 08 horse race. I know who I want to see take the nomination, but who can reach the midwest and south and all the “flyover” country is going to be the final test for me.

It’s a sad statement about our political process is Wesley Clark is having problems getting enough required money to run effectively. Wesley Clark is perhaps the best qualified candidate for President that we’ve seen in this entire century.

Do what you can to support his work at http://www.securingamerica.com

    President Clark in 2008!!!

This post is from last November and I haven’t heard much since then about Clark running. Has he given any signs that he is still thinking of it? While Al Gore could get away with jumping in late, I have my doubts whether Clark could still get into the race.
