Andrew Sullivan: Bush Unhinged

Andrew Sullivan sees George Bush’s unconditional support for Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld as “the most powerful reason for voting Democratic” in the midterm elections:

The president, in other words, has just proved that he is utterly unhinged from reality, in a state of denial truly dangerous for the world. He needs an intervention. Think of this election as an intervention against a government in complete denial and capable of driving the West off a cliff. You can’t merely abstain now. Bush just raised the stakes. And he must be stopped.

The arrogance of GWB is taking this country and the world with while he crashes to his bottom.

Many of us saw this coming back in 1999, but it really doesn’t matter when we saw it, what matters is the utter destruction that has occurred and has yet to begin to blowback.

    Ok..Bush lovers..quiz time..

Anyone can ask tough, intricate, confrontational questions. But all that ever does is start an argument, and it gets people nowhere. On the other hand, these are…well, easy. These are friendly questions. These are questions that allow another person to actually explain their thoughts, and explain fully. And to do so in as comfortable, as simple a way as possible.
Without feeling attacked. Without feeling pressure. Without feeling no one cares what they have to say. Friendly. Easy.
Print them out, carry them around in your pocket, and the next time someone begins quoting from a Republican talking points memo, take the list out and ask.

    [snip]
May I remind you what this election is about? Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, unprecedented presidential powers, unmatched incompetence, unparalleled corruption, unwarranted eavesdropping, Katrina, Enron, Halliburton, global warming, Cheney’s secret energy task force, record oil company profits, $3 gasoline, FEMA, the Supreme Court, Diebold, Florida in 2000, Ohio in 2004, Terri Schiavo, stem cell research, golden parachutes, shrunken pensions, unavailable and expensive healthcare, habeas corpus, no weapons of mass destruction, sacrificed soldiers and Iraqi civilians, wasted billions, Taliban resurgence, expiration of the assault weapons ban, North Korea, Iran, intelligent design, Swift boat hit squads, and on and on.

This election is about that, but much more—it’s about honor, dignity and comity in this country. It’s about the Constitution, which gives us this great nation. Bush ran on a pledge of “restoring honor and integrity” to the White House. Instead, he brought us Tom DeLay, Roy Blunt, Katherine Harris, John Doolittle, Jerry Lewis, Richard Pombo, Mark Foley, Dennis Hastert, David Safavian, Jack Abramoff, Ralph Reed, Karl Rove and an illegal and immoral war in Iraq. People, it’s up to you.

I still shake my head at Mitt for Prez, but I admire you for working for the person you want to see as in office.

Re: Battlebob’s list, very, very good. Thank you, it’s a keeper. I don’t have a daughter, but that example is perfect. Too perfect, actually. As hysterical as the comic factor is, bottom line, nothing about GWB’s reign is funny.

Good luck GOTV in Michigan, BB. I’ll be doing the same for Missouri.
