Fox, The Christian News Network

With Fox acting as the propaganda organ of the Republican Party, and with the Republican Party abandoning our heritage of secular government and separation of church and state as devised by the Founding Fathers, it was only a matter of time until Fox turned into an evangelical religious outlet. Here’s Brit Hume’s advice to Tiger Woods:

The extent to which he can recover seems to me depends on his faith,” Hume said. “He is said to be a Buddhist. I don’t think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith. So, my message to Tiger is, ‘Tiger, turn to the Christian faith and you can make a total recovery and be a great example to the world.

This advice is even more ridiculous considering the number of sex scandals we have seen in recent months among conservative Christian Republicans out of C Street.

I’m genuinely surprised that a major news anchor would say that during a broadcast. I mean, pumping the virtues of Christianity is one thing, but why bash Buddhism so explicitly?

It is not of issue what the Christians believe. I could care less whether or not Christians are pro or anti healing. What is of issue is that national news is not the place to recite scripture, and doing so destroys any credibility you have as a news network

It was just a matter of time before Fox did this. There are so-called Christian networks all over the place and even local commercial channels carry their church services. A minister of one of the largest congregations here (broadcast on Sun)killed a woman while on drugs. Obviously this normally unforgiving denomination has forgiven him, even though they can’t forgive a woman for stealing bread so her kids can eat.

Brit’s comments were not part of a news broadcast.  They were his opinion offered during a discussion on a cable news channel.  The last time I checked, free speech was allowed in our United States.

    Deb,

Nobody is questioning free speech here, but that is irrelevant. Having freedom of speech does not mean others cannot exercise their freedom of speech, such as when someone says something as repulsive and intolerant as Brit Hume has. Network news broadcasts are not the place to seek converts to one’s religion.
