[...] For viewers of the U.S. feeds of the shows, this week marked the end of Torchwood and the start of a new season of Doctor Who. Exit Wounds, the finale of Torchwood presented a surprise as it turned out that Jack’s brother Gray, and not John, was the real villain. John was really the prisoner, not Gray, and was being forced to do all those nasty things to Jack and the others at Torchwood. Besides concluding the Gray storyline, we also say a conclusion to the hinted at romance between Toshiko Sato and Owen Harper. Sadly it also meant the end of both of their lives. This does leave things open for changes in the show, such as bringing back Martha Jones, but hopefully they will not destroy what has made the show great, as some rumors suggest. [...]

I think messing with Torchwood would be a big mistake. All the characters play an important role, and Jack is certainly the heart and sole as Christopher mentioned above.

I could see that gay fans would be even more upset that I am over the rumored changes. From my perspective, Jack being gay is just one aspect of a long list of characteristics which make him a unique lead, but I can certainly see where gay SF fans would especially like him. Offhand I can't think of any series which portray a gay character in such a heroic role.

Hey Ron. Just discovered your weekly wrap-up by searching for gay and SciFi topics on the web. I was wondering if you'd heard about the site I run, doorQ.com? It's a portal for gay fans of SciFi, Fantasy and Horror?

People have been grumbling over there about the possible Torchwood changes too.

I use my TARDIS to go to the UK to watch. If you can't do that, here's an alternative:

Download using bit torrent.

You need a program which will download material in bit torrent form, and you need to search out a torrent for any individual show you want. There are many sites which have torrents available. For example:

http://isohunt.com/torrents/?ihq=torchwood

The actual program is available here:

http://www.bittorrent.com/

You also need to be able to play video in DivX format for most downloads. A handful of DVD players will do so, but most watch these on their computer. One player which handles this is:

At least we know they would write him out but they can't kill him off. The article, which is purely rumor, does state that there could still be some appearances from him, but that still wouldn't be the same.

If they want a family friendly show as they think such a show could make more money, they would be smarter to make a Torchwood spin off, even if it means taking Gwen away from Torchwood. They could put the spin off on BBC-1 or BBC-2 and move Torchwood back to BBC-3 if necessary and make it more adult oriented per the original idea.

Incidentally, the three part arc with Martha Jones is kept tame as they were concerned with young Doctor Who fans watching. The first episode after she is gone (aired on BBC-2 on Wednesday and still to come on BBC America) does have more obvious references to Jack's sexual preferences. The episode also has some alien sex which complicates Gwen's wedding (which is shown in the episode).

How could they write out John Barrowman?

He is the heart and soul of Torchwood. Oh well, if they do, I predict they will lose their audience. I know I won't watch it again if Barrowman were to go.
