[...] I hoped that we had heard the last from Mudcat when Edwards left the race and would see the end of one group of Democrats attacking another as elitists when the Clinton campaign folded. That’s one right wing talking point which the Clinton backers certainly helped to keep alive. I see the tendency for some liberals to see having an education or being successful as something to be defensive about to be comparable to the tendency of some Democrats to be defensive about being called liberal. (Not surprisingly, both the nonsense on elitism and a backtrack on liberalism did come from the same camp.) [...]

[...] Following the CNN/You Tube debate I commented on Hillary Clinton’s avoidance of the word liberal. This remains a topic of discussion in the blogosphere. For example Ryan Sager found this to be a highlight of the debate: Clinton’s forthright disavowal of the term “liberal,” because Republicans have made it a dirty word in the minds of voters. She may have just put that term entirely in the past (at least in its Ted Kennedy-bashing usage) and formalized the switch to “progressive.” [...]

I think any candidate like Biden and Hillary who claimed it'll take a year to get out of Iraq (Biden) or a month to redeploy each brigade (Hillary) did serious damage to him or herself. We now have what, 15, 20 brigades in Iraq? It took us 3-1/2 weeks to fight our way to Baghdad and it's going to take a year or two to do what most Iraqis want us to do and get out? That's just stupid, overly cautious, inside the beltway, serious person blather. Occupying Iraq isn't the solution, it's the problem.
