Poll Finds 43 Percent Believe God Helps Tebow Win

There are certainly a lot of ignorant Americans. A recent poll found that 43 percent believe God helps Tim Tebow win football games.

I wonder how they explain the games in which Tebow doesn’t win. Did Tebow (or his fans) do something wrong to cause God to make him lose, or does God lack the power to control everything in a football game?

Even more importantly, if they believe that God is interested in football to the point of intervening, why doesn’t God intervene in more important areas which might reduce human suffering. Do they really believe that intervening to determine who wins a football game is more important to God than intervening to prevent the Holocaust?

Most important, why does God like TT so much more than those he plays against?

The belief is that God likes Tim Tebow because of the way in which Tebow worships him. Seems rather petty for a being capable of creating an entire universe.

Isn’t it obvious? TT wants to run for president some day and is courting the religious-right conservatives a la Santorum. After the drubbing he took last night from the Patriots, he must be asking, “My God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Someday, he’ll wake up and realize he believed the myth. He won’t admit it publicly (do you really think the Pope believes in God?) of course.

Then those 43% must think God is a huge Liberal passing over Tebow and Scott Walker’s Packers to help left coast team San Francisco 49ers and the lefty city of New York and the Giants.

Perhaps God does not directly intervene in the game with his power. Perhaps the belief and confidence in God gives him strength, courage and confidence to go out and give his best.
