Effective governing is based upon compromise, not always following the most extreme views of one’s base. We objected we George Bush governed from the far right, ignoring all other views. We cannot expect Barack Obama to get the left everything they want.

When future archeologists try to understand our legends and customs, I believe they will conclude that Santa Claus was a man in a brown uniform who drove a brown truck to deliver presents to people’s doors.
Those on the left who claim Barack Obama is a Reaganite conservative have no more understanding of actual conservative positions than the wingnuts on the right who claim Obama is a socialist understand actual liberal or socialist views.
