Michigan Assistant Attorney General Fired For Harassment Of University Of Michigan Student Body President

Last month I had a report on Andrew Shirvell a Michigan Assistant Attorney General who was harassing the gay Student Body President at the University of Michigan. Shirvell had argued that he was doing so on his own time and that his speech was protected by the First Amendment. Many others had questioned the appropriateness of an employee of the Attorney General’s office engaging against a vendetta against an individual, along with targeting him due to being gay. The Ann Arbor News reports that Shirvell was fired today. There are also complaints against Shirvell which could lead to him being disbarred.

That is most excellent news. Another bigot is served justice.

I know it’s almost irresistible to spell it the way you did, but the man’s name is Shirvell. And he is a sad, disturbed individual. I hope he gets some therapy now; I don’t like the idea of his being loose on the street with a vendetta and possibly a gun.

The Ann Arbor News went out of business a year or so ago.  AnnArbor.com took its place.

Consequences is something that is too rarely seen among the political elite.  I am sure that he is a hero among a really lousy bunch of folks…even more consequences.
