It has become very easy to find polls which show that whichever party you prefer now has the momentum going into this November’s elections. I tend to discount such polls as I don’t believe the vast majority of people (as opposed to blog readers) are even paying that much attention to politics yet or have made up their minds. That said, for those who are looking for good news for the Democrats, an Associated Press-GfK Poll shows that a majority want the Democrats to retain control of Congress by a 46 percent to 39 percent margin.
While I don’t believe such polls are terribly predictive, this does help counter the conventional wisdom of a Republican resurgence. This is the second straight month in which the Democrats win a majority compared to April when when 44 percent preferred Republican control as opposed to 41 percent for the Democrats.

I think there was another poll recently showing the TP has far less approval than it did a few months ago. Another finds that a huge percentage of Republicans are unhappy with their fearless leaders. Unfortunitely I don’t have the surces – maybe I saw them here?
The only polls that matter are the ones counted after the election is over.
More and more, I think the problem is that people are afraid to take the responsibility to think for themselves. Active listening, close reading, and comprehension are very rare skills in modern America. Infoglut is making William Gibson look less like an SF writer and more like a prophet every day.
I’m mildly happy that, at this moment, it appears that people will make the better of two bad choices. I just wish I had more faith in the processes by which they arrived at that decision and their ability to hold to it for more than twenty minutes.
Of course, most of the people who do stick to their principles do so because someone tells them what their principles should be rather than because of reflective study of what their principles are.
I’m not sure there’s an upside, some days.
Eclectic! Where have you been the last several months?
At first, I was just put out of action by a medical problem… I had an infected salivary gland that required major antibiotics for longer than I would have wanted. The fact that it was originally misdiagnosed as an abcessed tooth prolonged the problem. Fortunately, the teeth that got pulled needed to be pulled so it was not a waste of time and money… but it didn’t help the golf ball in my face.
While I was out of action I got into the habit of being out of action.
I dunno how back in action I am yet. I’ve never been a font of sunshine, but even before my health issues I was feeling burnt out. I want to be around, but I don’t always feel motivated. Misanthropy is a real effective cure for activism.
I want to be afire to destroy the corporate system, but it’s tough. 🙂
Hopefully your medical problems are under control. Over the last few months most of the discussion has been moved to Facebook. While it is great to often have many responses to blog posts on Facebook, sometimes it does feel too quiet around here when there isn’t much in the comments area.
I don’t do Facebook, mostly for computer security reasons but also because it irritates me. 😉
So I’ll try to have something to say when I’m around. 🙂
