Lie of the Year

There were a lot of lies told by politicians, but one really stands out. PoliFact has chosen the lie of the year: Sarah Palin’s claims the health care reform proposals would lead to the government setting up “death panels.” It also says something about politics today that this lie was started by Sarah Palin on her Facebook page.

It also says something about politics when so-called legislators pick up the lie – Boehner and McConnell to name just a couple.

    Wake up. Rationing will happen.
A “Death Panel” by any other name is still a “Death Panel.”

Maybe rationing will happen, but there is nothing in the bill which promotes rationing or makes it more likely to occur.

    Brian,
    “Rationing WILL happen”  ????????
You obviously have OVERLOOKED that “RATIONING” already has happened ! ALL of us except the super wealthy are RATIONED by what we CAN afford ! Even those that have insurance are RATIONED by the policy they can afford or WORSE rationed by what your insurance co. interperts as
” NOT COVERED ”  They get to say yea or nay … that’s RATIONING !

    Brian,

Besides obviously not having a brain of your own that is able to process original ideas, is there some other reason why you would lay out such a claim with zero back-up or explanation?

Lets lay out a nice little hypothetical and see if you can figure out what is happening…

You make a dr. appointment for a Tuesday, with complaints of  a hacking, unproductive cough and chest pain on your right side.. Your doctor orders wants to run a few tests, one of them being an x-ray, to try and diagnose a possible case of acute pnuemonia of the right lung. The dr. sends you home and says “we will be in contact” to run these tests. After three days of waiting, you are contacted that the test has been “approved.” By this time it is Sunday and when you call to try and schedule something for that day, they just say “sorry,” but you can only get an x-ray if you go to urgent care today, as we do not have schedulers working on the weekends.. And when you call urgent care, there is a wait of 5 hours (plus the un-talked about chance that you’ll leave the urgent care with  a brand new infection)

Where do you think that three day delay and final approval/denial come from? If you think the Republicans are telling the truth and your doctors are in control, you are sorely mistaken. Some number cruncher at the INSURANCE COMPANY made that decision. Period.

They are the ones that decide whether or not it is worth it for them to pay for a test or not.. It rarely has anything to do with what your doctor wants to do, and more about the bottom line in the accounting department… If the insurance company decides that you are too old and will probably die soon anyways, they wont run the test.. Its that simple…
