“Joe the Plumber — you can quote me — is a dumbass. He should stick to plumbing.”
—Meghan McCain
The only problem is that Joe wasn’t even licensed as a plumber.

He did work for a plumber off the plumber’s license, however, and worked as a scab for those who didn’t want to pay union rates. If he had bought the business he allegedly speculated about, he would have had to get a license to operate it legally. I enjoy ragging on him as much as anyone, but most of the employees who do the work when you call a plumber are not themselves licensed, they work under the owner’s license and he is responsible for their work.
I love the quote though. Though she is kind of a dip and is not always great for the image of blondes in the public media, I can’t help but love Meghan McCain. We certainly need more Republicans like her if we want to have a viable two party system.
Meghan McCain isn’t exactly the brightest bulb of the set I saw her on the Bill Maher show and she was so mal informed she couldn’t even back her own statments not impressive at all , plus did we really need her to point out what a joke “Joe the Plumber” was?
I’ve quoted Meghan McCain as saying things which were both sensible and things which weren’t so sensible. At least she has been bright enough to criticize the extreme social conservatism of the GOP. Of course the fact that she backed Kerry in 2004 shows she’s not a typical Republican.
“Meghan McCain isn’t exactly the brightest bulb of the set I saw her on the Bill Maher show..”
I watched that episode as well and I really just think that was nerves.. She was literally shaking and at least 2 shades darker red than usual… So I wouldn’t take that performance as a tell-all about her overall knowledge on many issues.. With that said, I also do not think that she is the brightest crayon in the box, either.. 90% of the things that she calls the Republicans out on are basically just common sense issues that Independants and Dems just take for granted..
I do applaud her for speaking out (especially against Rush and Coulter the **nt) but the more I see her the more it just looks like she is using her namesake to get in on the cashcow that is MSM.. If she REALLY wanted to do something worthwhile, why not take up an actual cause and hit the streets? Going around talking about how you have gay friends and support the gay rights movement isn’t really doing anything.. She is no better than Cheney in that regard..
Got a bit off topic there, but I guess my overall point is close to Ron’s.. while she isn’t completely useless *coughPALINcough*, she is going to have to do a lot more to impress me thats for sure.
“90% of the things that she calls the Republicans out on are basically just common sense issues that Independants and Dems just take for granted..”
Certainly. But for a Republican to recognize that is nearly unheard of, and those that do are nearly always treated like horrible monsters by their fellows despite being plenty conservative in most ways. So it’s a big deal.
“If she REALLY wanted to do something worthwhile, why not take up an actual cause and hit the streets?”
This describes eighty to ninety percent of people in politics in both parties.
It is difficult to accuse someone who never has had and never will have to worry about money of ‘cashing in.’ Her mother is immensely rich, it’s not about a cash cow. It’s about enjoying flattering attention, which most girls her age do, and speaking her mind… which most everyone likes. Witness us here.
Is she milking her fame for as much attention as possible while it lasts? Yes. Obviously.
The point is that she is using her pulpit to advocate for positive change on social issues in a party whose position on social issues has only changed for the worse since 1865. Advocating the GOP stop opposing gay marriage is a bit better than Dick Cheney when one considers that Dick Cheney has been in a position ton meaningfully influence his party on the issue and has instead been content to curry the favor of homophobes in order to help him attempt to establish a corporate police state. 😉
