Our Second Anniversary

Just in case anyone is searching for an excuse to have a drink today, today marks the second anniversary of the starting of the Liberal Values blog. I imagine that, as backers of Barack Obama in this year’s election, wine would be more appropriate as opposed to beer (unless you prefer to stand up to the people who write about such stereotypes). Should you prefer to celebrate with a mixed drink, the most recent revision of the official Liberal Values Appletini recipe was posted here after last year’s blogiversary.

    Congratulations on your second anniversary!

Speaking of stereotypes, wouldn’t orange juice be more appropriate for Obama supporters…perhaps with a side salad of arugula?

Congratulations!  Liberal Values is one of the great unsung blogs.

While I’m here, what puzzles me (as an outsider) about the 2008 race is how a devious and dysfunctional loose cannon and front runner for Mr Buffalo Chip 2008 can maintain a reputation for straight talk and competence while the media and the electorate fall over themselves to pick holes in his extraordinarily gifted rival.  For that matter, how do dishonest politicians get away with playing the electorate for fools, so successfully, time after time, with the same old techniques of crude stereotyping?  Lincoln must be spinning in his grave.

Surely the most striking conclusion to be drawn from Obama’s “celebrity” tour is that the world sees America locked in a deadly tailspin of ignorance and self delusion, and endorses Obama as the only one who (at this juncture anyway) can lead your country back to greatness.  Unfortunately, that message does not seem to have penetrated the great wall of Duh.

The fate of the planet may well be riding on this election, America.  Please don’t screw it up for all of us.
