Obama Takes Lead in New Jersey Poll

Barack Obama lost to Hillary Clinton by ten points in the New Jersey primary, but since then support has shifted towards Obama. A Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey poll shows Obama now leading by seven points.

This doesn’t change the results of the primary but it does counter the idea that momentum has shifted towards Clinton. This also seriously undermines Clinton’s big state argument by which she claims to be more electable due to having won the primaries in several large blue states. This helps demonstrate that having lost to Clinton in a primary does not mean Obama cannot become successful in the state. The poll also shows that both Obama and Clinton would beat John McCain.

This shows Hillary Clinton  gets the votes of those who are not paying attention.  Once they pay attention, they don’t support her.

I think the same holds true for Hillary–that just because she lost a primary doesn’t mean that the state may not vote in her favor later on. I think people should stop catering to Barack Obama so much–every time something goes wrong, the media is so quick to defend him. New Jersey voted for Clinton when it mattered; so did a bunch of other states, and they would do the same if she were the nominee in the fall. So N.J polls don’t really count at this point, unfortunately.

what it shows is that New Jersey voters had forgotten what the Clinton’s were on Feb 5th. and they’ve finally taken a look

    Rachelle,

Of course it holds true for  Hillary. Losing a primary does not mean one will lose the state in the general election. The point is that has been Hillary who has been making the false claim that Obama cannot win the big Democratic states which he has lost.

The New Jersey polls don’t count with regards to the primary which are past, but they do still count in showing how the views of the voters have changed over time.
