Martin Sheen Backs Obama

Martin Sheen, who played President Bartlett on The West Wing has endorsed Barack Obama. While this endorsement will not have any more impact than any of the other endorsements either candidate has received, this is at least a small symbolic victory. Bill Clinton was a big fan of the show and both camps were seeking Sheen’s endorsement. The BBC reports:

“Both Obama and Clinton came to me for support,” Sheen said in a BBC interview with Graham Norton.

“I haven’t said this publicly before but I’m an Obama supporter,” the 67-year-old said.

Sheen played idealised Democrat president Josiah Bartlet for seven seasons of hit drama The West Wing, which counted former presidents among its fans.

“Bill Clinton loved The West Wing and still calls me the president, so I have to be careful,” the Apocalypse Now actor revealed.

Bartlett was the best president the US has ever had. I’m loving this endorsement! (Doubt it will effect the race much though.

    Domino,

Or is Bartlett the best president we never had? Considering how little effect any endorsements seem to have had this year, I figure I can consider this endorsement to be as big as any.

In case you haven’t been around here before, I have been periodically posting videos from The West Wing here. I’ve concentrated on ones related to separation of church and state. It serves the dual purpose of making the argument and of showing the difference between Bush and a president who can speak coherently.

Let’s face it, after what he went through in Vietnam, it was amazing that he was ever elected. Of course that whole trip up the river never really happened, and if it did, Mr. President would not be at liberty to discuss it.

We need more presidents who’ve had a decapitated head dropped in their lap.

This current race reminds me so much of the things I learned about politics and the way things are managed behind the scenes in an election from WEST Wing.  I look at Gibbs and wonder if he’s Obama’s Leo and Jon Lefeave his head writer has all the appeal of Sam.

Like West Wing this election has inspired me, given me hope, and Obama has gotten me involved with being an American again.  Finally.. Like Leo once said ” just once I want to vote for someone who is greater than the lesser of two who cares”  !  Thanks Aaron and Martin!
