War on Christmas Back On, Disregard Previous Report

A few days ago it looked like the War on Christmas was over. Bill O’Reily declared victory, which was fine with me as it might have allowed the rest of us to celebrate the holidays in peace. A report out of Oklahoma shows that Tony Snow has now invented a “War on God” along with starting his own war on college faculty members:

Tony Snow, former press Secretary to President Bush and Fox news anchor, spoke to the Academy of Leadership & Liberty at Oklahoma Christian University last week.

The winsome and articulate Snow charmed his audience with wit:

“The average Iranian is more Pro-American than virtually any college faculty in this country.” And with serious talk about the war on terror and “the second war in this country, the war on God.”

The same article reports, “Snow also said he loved being on a stage where he could say the word ‘God.'” Steve Benen is puzzled about Snow’s statement about the word “God” noting, “He used it from his White House podium with some frequency, and as far as I can tell, never faced any censorship.”

Think Progress also reports that Tony Snow appeared on O’Reilly’s show and repeated the type of claims usually used to fuel the “War on Christmas” rants:

I don’t think they’re going to beat Jesus. … You’ve mentioned the fact that you’re not allowed to have Christ at Christmas. I mean, I went to a Christmas store this week. It didn’t have anything about Jesus. It had all sorts of funny little ornaments in it, but nothing about the holiday. People are tired of that.

I also went to a Major Retailer –i won’t state its name– and could not buy Jesus anywhere!

Jesus is the heart of the season, and its an OUTRAGE than you can’t find him made in China!

Talk about a Market Failure. Sheesh.

It’s a major problem for some.

Personally I’m having a tough time finding a Wii for my daughter and it might have to wait until January. I did hear a story on NPR last week reporting on another toy which has been sold out of many stores-Talking Jesus. I just did a Google search and found several news articles reporting the same.

I don’t supposed that they will be satisfied with an alternative. Possibly a Talking Yoda providing words of wisdom? Perhaps they could throw in some tickets to see Golden Compass.

Keep in mind that the problem that the vast majority of Americans have with the assault on Christmas is not its economic role in society, but its cultural role.

When you flip the TV a few channels, and in those few seconds you hear cussing, you see sexually explicit material, and you see useless rubbish, it becomes clear that our nation has strayed from and continues to stray from our cultural identity of wholesome Americanism. Christmas is a pillar of wholesome Americanism, yet it continues to be derailed year after year after year. One need look no further than “Christmas” films that are produced. You will find that in these films the spirit of Christ is not even attempted to be embodied. Some of these films even go out of their way to make a mockery of that spirit that so many millions hold sacrosanct.

Obviously I could go on and list the things that need fixing (be it films, customs, products, etc.), but I would just like to say in final that Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior of a majority of the planet’s religious population. Let us hope that his message of peace and love prevails above all else in this coming Christmas season, as well as in the centuries to come.

I don’t think the leaders of retail stores support Dems anyway. Does anyone think the head of Walmart is a Dem? How about Pennys, Sears or Target?
Christmas is a retail holiday brought to you by the Conservative God-Is-Every-Where-But-Cash-Is-King Republican Party.
