Quote of the Day

“There’s something about Michigan.”

–The University of Michigan’s new football coach Rich Rodriguez responding to a question on why he turned down Alabama last year after saying that coaching at Michigan was an opportunity he had no intention of passing on.

It is unusual for Michigan to hire a football coach from outside of the program, with Rodriguez being the first since Bo Schembechler was hired in 1969. In response Rodriguez said, “Do you have to be a Michigan man to be a Michigan coach? Gosh, I hope not.”

Mr. Rodriguez, as of today you are a Michigan man. Welcome, good luck, and go blue.

Are you going to bar me from anymore comments if I admit to being a Buckeye fan? (Unless they are playing my current school, Illinois)

    Ryan,

So is your change in allegiance the reason for the upset this year? Come to think of it, you managed to win both ways. Illinois got the victory in the game, getting them into the Rose Bowl, and Ohio State still gets to play for the National Championship despite the late season loss.

I just hope that the Big Ten isn’t humiliated in the bowls. Illinois and Michigan don’t stand much of a chance against USC and Florida, and I’m not so certain about Ohio State’s chances against LSU.

Yeah, it was quite a fortuitous turn of events at the end of the season. My old team (I’m from the Dayton area so OSU is the closest big school) goes to the National Championship game, and my new team, where I’m now going to grad school goes to the Rose Bowl. (Who says they need to fix the BCS?)

But I’m not very optimistic about their chances either. USC is really good when they play well and all those SEC teams are so tough.
