While the box office was generally slow over the weekend, Michael Moore’s documentary Sicko was a “smash hit” and was sold out in its sneak previews in 43 cities. An exclusive showing at the AMC Lincoln Square in New York brought in $70.000, possibly a record for an exclusive showing.
All those early copies released on line don’t seem to have hurt (and I wonder if they allowed them for a brief time to create more buzz for the movie). I previously posted a review of the documentary here.
This high degree of interest undoubtably comes from the public’s concern over health care, and may have an impact on the upcoming political races. I previously discussed the political impact of the film here.
