The War on Science is taking on geology with full force as the Bush administration appears to prefer the idea that the Grand Canyon was created by the biblical flood as opposed to geological forces. HOW OLD IS THE GRAND CANYON? PARK SERVICE WON’T SAY — Orders to Cater to Creationists Makes National Park Agnostic on Geology
Washington, DC — Grand Canyon National Park is not permitted to give an official estimate of the geologic age of its principal feature, due to pressure from Bush administration appointees. Despite promising a prompt review of its approval for a book claiming the Grand Canyon was created by Noah’s flood rather than by geologic forces, more than three years later no review has ever been done and the book remains on sale at the park, according to documents released today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER).
“In order to avoid offending religious fundamentalists, our National Park Service is under orders to suspend its belief in geology,” stated PEER Executive Director Jeff Ruch. “It is disconcerting that the official position of a national park as to the geologic age of the Grand Canyon is ‘no comment.’”
In a letter released today, PEER urged the new Director of the National Park Service (NPS), Mary Bomar, to end the stalling tactics, remove the book from sale at the park and allow park interpretive rangers to honestly answer questions from the public about the geologic age of the Grand Canyon. PEER is also asking Director Bomar to approve a pamphlet, suppressed since 2002 by Bush appointees, providing guidance for rangers and other interpretive staff in making distinctions between science and religion when speaking to park visitors about geologic issues…
“As one park geologist said, this is equivalent of Yellowstone National Park selling a book entitled Geysers of Old Faithful: Nostrils of Satan,” Ruch added, pointing to the fact that previous NPS leadership ignored strong protests from both its own scientists and leading geological societies against the agency approval of the creationist book. “We sincerely hope that the new Director of the Park Service now has the autonomy to do her job.”
I believe the supreme, omnipotent One created the Grand canyon? Nothing spectacular really. Its simply an area where erosen took place on a grand scale, after a significant earth plate movement, such as when the Father fullfilled His plan, i.e seperating the tribes/generations/nations, which was accomplished, apparently, by seperating the continents. I guess you really don’t need a technical degree for that. Thoughts should shift to the real dalema. No not mecca, the war of nations, global warming, but the ball of energy sailing through space with a destiny of transformation for all those sons/daughters of God/Father/Yahwah who change their unrighteous paths. all those who have accepted His Knowledge and understand His purpose during the Second Covenenat will gain from the Living waters of Life. The most purest of it all, is its free. Its not like all these webcites indicating free services tha are actually, not free. Hummmm. Heres your sign, as those crazy blue collar boys say. Has anybody taken a look at what would happen if a comet, for instance, disturbed the electromagnetic field of the earth, or better yet destroyed the moon. Having created, ah, everything, Its understandable that the Father had a spectacular dsigne in place that will undoubtably be effectual to create such a supermetaphysical state on this planet where the sons of man/daughters(all those righteous/pure at heart, mind, and virtures) will arise at His chosen time. I guess everyone could seek solice in the fact that those who know Him will see Him when the remaining end days of the First covenenat ends. He does Love His Children.
Can’t we just gwt back to the Constitution and stop trying to be so touchy feely? Our Forefathers are rolling in their graves as I speak. What an embarrassment Bush and his administration. What a feeble old fool.First lets take out religion then lets put it back, give me a break.
It is truly inconceivable to me that people in this day and age would believe that the Grand Canyon could be made by one massive flood. Some of the rocks in the canyon are as hard as concrete and would not be washed away so easily. The constant freezing and thawing, summer heat expansion, wind and water slowly breakdown the rock and erode the stone until we are left with the canyon we see today. This is a long process, the pyramids have been around for 3800 years (by some accounts as long as the Biblical world) and will be there long after we are gone. Erosion takes a very long time, not one event. It is no surprise that the people who believe this, are the same ones who believe Noah walked with dinosaurs and his sons flew around the globe on one to collect the animals for the Arc. (I couldn’t make this stuff up) But God’s will, I suppose.
