Why Conservatives Cheer

The Washington Post is running a story reporting that Religious Conservatives Cheer Ruling on Gays as Wake-Up Call. It makes you wonder whether their concern is one of principle or political expediency. While I have a hard time understanding why anyone would devote their energy to intrude in other people’s private lives in this manner, I would think that someone who really believes gay marriage must be stopped would never find reason to cheer such a decision.

On the other hand, if thier goal is to mobilize the religious right to go out and support the authoritarian policies of the current Republican Party, then their cheering is understandable. Political opportunism beats out principle.
